Why is Your Social Media Game Coming up Short?

If your social media game is lacking a little punch, what do you plan to do about it?

For many business owners, the difference between success and failure can hinge on how much time and effort they place on marketing and especially social media. Failure to do so can lead to missed opportunities to connect with consumers, ultimately impacting one’s cash flow.

With social media in mind, how do you plan to strengthen your social media game in 2015?

Have a Plan

First and foremost, you need to have a firm social media plan in place. Without it, you are more than likely to be spinning your wheels and really not getting anywhere.

Start with which sites you want to promote your brand on. Among some of the better ones:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Google+
  • Instagram
  • Pinterest
  • LinkedIn

Obviously, trying to be everything to everybody on all these sites will be a challenge to say the least.

Choose Wisely and Get Going

Focus on one or two (tops) site to begin with. Maybe start with Twitter and Instagram; you’d do just as well with Facebook and Pinterest too. In the event you go with the former, make sure you have an interesting company profile and a quality image.

From there, make a concerted effort to post at least every other day (daily is even better). Your posts should be relevant to your industry and also worthwhile to viewers.

As you begin to gain some traction, add to those you are following and have befriended. You want to follow relevant sources to your line of work, along with avoiding “junk” followers, those who more times than not end up being suspended accounts.

It is also a good idea to share links/images from others in your line of work. Not only is this a means of providing relevant information to those who follow you, but it can certainly add to the number of regular followers and friends you have over time.

Another thing to keep your eyes open for is online chats, webinars, forums etc.

These can not only be good learning events for you and your employees, but they are also another means to network and promote your brand.

Lastly, keep all your social media interactions on the most professional level.

While there is nothing wrong with having a little fun and being interesting outside of work, never engage with anyone in a negative tone that could impact you or your company’s brand.

If a discussion does take a negative turn, take it out of the public eye or move from it altogether. Your social reputation is as important as your brand, so never put it in jeopardy.

When it comes to running a business, what does your social media plan have in store for the remainder of 2015 and beyond?
