Wordpress Users Get Real
by Shannon Suetos Mon, 04/19/2010 - 11:41
For those of you blogging away on wordpress.com, there is a new upgrade you should be aware of—PubSubHubbub. No that is not a new tongue twister, but rather an automatically integrated update that updated wordpress.com blogs to RSS feeds using PUSH (short for PubSubHubbub).
If you are a wordpress.org user don’t fret there is a plugin as well. Doing this will help get your content out much faster and lets your subscribers know in real-time when you have written a new post.
So why is this important for web designers? Being up to date on the latest plugins can give you an edge against the competition. Telling your clients they can download (for free) an application for their site that will allow people to get their updates in real time can be very beneficial for them.
Web design work is more than just design. It is also knowing how to market your services to your client. You may know the latest in CSS and HTML, but you need to know how to communicate with your clients in non-computer jargon. Although PubSubHubbub might sound silly, being able to explain it can help your clients understand the web and their SEO efforts as well.
On the flip side, enabling this plugin on your own website could help you gain more traffic to your site, opening up the door for more clients. If you blog regularly on your site, this is a great opportunity to get your message out more effectively.
No matter how you decide to implement this new information the point is it is here and useful for many websites. Every little bit of information is helpful in the competitive world of web design.
