Thank you so much for naming me as a semi-finalist for my business idea of giving a series of free Feminist Art Tours and art lectures at the Norton Simon Museum. I would love to launch this type of lecture, to create a national program, at museums around the country. THANK YOU AGAIN! - Margaret Danielak, DanielakArt - A Gallery Without Walls
Yeah! Good luck to all of us :)
I am very interested in applying for the grant. I am young, female, african american and I graduated from college 4 years ago. for me at this point in my life it is hard to recieve financeing from a bank. But one thing is for certain I am passionate about starting my own buisness not only for me but for my daughters. How do I go about applying? Who can I talk to for help?
I really wanted to do this, please let me know when the net one opnes up thanks!
I would add there is a free site for uploading videos ads for your business adwido.com unlike youtube.com Also noticed they have image uploads if you are not yet up to videos. The more sites you can link to the greater your maket will be. They have a free link exchange as well.
A Cloud can absolutely be used for a distributed video solution utilizing progressive download. In fact, it is an ideal usage of a Cloud; taking advantage of a scalable amount of processing power and bandwidth that may be too costly to implement on your own.
When considering this type of setup, particularly for an enterprise-class video application, you need to ensure that your provider's bandwidth will not limit your intended audience. Advantages to a Cloud implementation in this case (as in almost all cases involving Virtualization) would be added stability and availability of the application, plus scalable bandwidth which is likely far greater than you would otherwise have available.
If you have any other questions regarding Cloud computing, feel free to post them here or contact me directly.

Joined your Facebook page but am disappointed to see there isn't much there. I find it easier to keep up with Facebook than with Twitter (which I also follow you on) and have suggested your FB profile to others I know. Please give us more food for thought. :)
Hi Chad, thanks so much for mentioning the Small Business Success Index among these other terrific studies. Interestingly, the research also revealed a couple core challenges for U.S. small businesses, specifically long/short-term capital access and marketing. We (Network Solutions) are hosting a free webinar next Thursday, April 30 from 2-3pm ET to address these issues. We’ve got a panel of small biz owners and experts lined up to talk about overcoming these challenges to stay profitable in this economy. Now there’s a glimmer of hope. Hope you can join us and spread the word. Full details are available at www.growsmartbusiness.com/webinar. Thanks again, Chad!

Can cloud be used for hosting video when a lot of users are expected to be accessing them using progressive download? Is there an advantage (cost or performance) in doing it through the cloud vs a full blown CDN?
Very good article and you can bet that I will put much of your advise to use!
Don't gamble. And that's exactly what you'd be doing if you buy into the idea that the reason to spend during a downturn is because others aren’t. There are definitely categories and products that are ripe for aggressive marketing in a recession. It has to be a case-by-case decision.
I’m always interested in exploring the business side of fashion. People dream about becoming a designer or owning a boutique, but don’t exactly know what it takes to get there.

Linda,
Thank you for sharing such timely insight into the ever expanding professional/social networking scene and how it's helping leading the way for open-minded thinkers, regardless of how "tech savvy" they are.
This is a fantastic article. Thanks for sharing. I do seminars on how people who are less savvy with technology can use technology to improve their careers, and I always mention LinkedIn prominently, but this article has even taught me quite a bit. Thanks!
Jim has hit home with me. I also as a young boy of seven or eight watched my father start a small musical instrument repair and music teaching business out of our home. I watched him experience the highs and lows of trying to build and maintain a small business while also trying to be a father to 13 children. I was determined to have a small business of my own and have had a few. I also firmly believe in forming alliances to level the playing field and in interdependent strategic partnerships to grow small business without government intervention and that it is the key to economic growth in America .
This is very encouraging.
Nice stream of consciousness piece there, dude :)
Discouraged . So many able bodied people want to work . We all
listen to the news . Unemployment is at an all time High . And the States in this country can't keep up . I'm trying to find a Job at home. . You always have to pay to get started . I don't have a Credit Cards anymore . Can't even afford to file BK . Try to live off ofthe state, Illinois ? My point is there are so many Scams out there now. It shouldn't be . We are supposed to Help each other !
The Gov. isn't doing it for us, we work for them . I feel everyone is getting tired and fed up. Alot is being taken away
Trained dogs can really be of help when the only chance you have is 70% chance of eneding up blind and paralyzed in a wheel chair. It is better to be blind and walking.

Congratulations WOMBeat! I wish you continued success in your business venture.
Best of luck to all of the finalists! Don't give up...Get ready for the next contest!
All of this is terrific advice. Here's another idea that's kind of cool.
As the talk of recession crowds the news and economic stimulus package debates rage, it's time for small businesses to take the matter into their own hands.
Make a Referral Week, March 9 - 13, is an entrepreneurial approach to stimulating the small business economy one referred business at a time. The goal for the week is to generate 1000 referred leads to 1000 deserving small businesses and highlight the impact of a simple action that could blossom into millions of dollars in new business.
Small business is the lifeblood and job-creating engine of the economy and merits the positive attention so often saved for corporate bailout stories.
There's a website with information (lots of high-powered people are buying in) and a list of events: http://www.makeareferralweek.com
The goal is to get as many businesses making referrals as possible - now that would kick start the economy!
Count me among the overplanning types. I know it's a nervous response to by anxiety, but does it have to also make it worse. Aaaaaarrrrgghhhh!
