Finalist Q&A: Engines of Creation

Engines of Creation Web Design & Development offers website design, development and search engine marketing services to small and medium sized businesses. They have a large focus on customer service and providing a quality service at an affordable price.

How did you come up with the idea for your business, and what, or who, is your main source of motivation?

My business partner Paul began learning web design as an alternative to pursuing an music career, at the time I had just graduated college and was working as a jewelry designer. Paul presented me with the idea of starting a business together, so I began teaching myself html, search engine optimization and other facets of the trade.

My main source of motivation probably was the desire to work for myself, and build my own future rather than working for someone else all my life.

What is a unique feature of your business?

One of the unique features of our business is that we really like to be personal with our clients. Most of our clients are small business owners, so we can relate to their day to day operation headaches and really understand the importance of our role in their success.

What are your thoughts on the connection between small business and the local community?

Small business need the support of the local community to have a strong base. I moved back to my home town to open our first "real" office so that I could have the opportunity to give back, participate in local government and volunteer. This year so far I have volunteered with Junior Achievement and we are now talking with the local community college about internships.

I think that Idea Cafe regulars recognize how alike small business owners are in their reasons for pursuing a career to work for themselves. We all work hard and deserve recognition for our labors, and I am truly humbled by being selected as a finalist and appreciate any and all support from Idea Cafe regulars as well as my friends and family.
