Gamification In The Workplace - What Is It?

A new trend is spreading across corporate America - gamification.

But, what is gamification?

Gamification is where tools take parts of video game concepts and implement them into their company. That doesn’t mean that you’ll be playing Super Mario Brothers instead of making sales calls though. Gamification ties in concepts of completing tasks and earning badges for employees. It can help create a healthy culture of competition and push employees to a new height.

How can it be used?

Gamification is being utilized by companies in a variety of different ways. IActionable can integrate with SalesForce to help sales teams improve their numbers. It also allows companies to manage their sales competitions between sales teams.

Other companies are using gamification to reach and reward their users. Step2 decided to implement gamification to increase customer engagement and loyalty. Customers can write reviews and engage with other users to earn points and raise levels to ultimately become a brand influencer.

So, while some companies are focusing on employees, others are looking to their customers to test out gamification tools.

Why is it important?

The gamification industry is new, but its long term outlook is positive. The increased engagement by employees and customers has also shown to increase productivity and profitability for companies.

For managers that are using gamification to motivate employees it gives them an opportunity to show their employees how their performing in real-time. New gamification tools allow employees to compare themselves against other coworkers, earn badges, and increase in levels to earn new prizes or accomplishments.

On the flip-side, tailoring gamification to your consumers can help increase customer loyalty and brand engagement. It also gives you an added platform to get your content in front of a new set of eyes (e.g. giving extra points for sharing a video or infographic you created).

Gamification isn’t going anywhere. In fact, it’s just going to keep growing.
