How to Boost Your Social Media Strategy

Social media is no longer just for fun, it is also a place for serious business. Companies use social media to gain and market to customers. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn are some of the major players in the social media space. Businesses use these platforms every day to reach out to customers and market. In this article, we will walk you through methods that will make the most out of social media for businesses.

Choose a Platform Based on Where Your Customers Are

Not all customers are evenly dispersed across social media. There are millions of users on each major platform, but not all of them act equally towards your brand. Most of your customers might be congregated on Twitter with very few on Facebook. You have to market where your audience is. However, there is some validity to marketing where your customers aren’t. This is to attract new customers, but your first priority should be to take care of your existing customers.

One Size Does Not Fit All

Not all customers are the same. Not all of them like the same things. This goes for marketing too. What might interest one customer could drive another away. This means that one size does not fit all when it comes to advertising.

Instead of grouping all your customers together and treating them as one, break them into smaller groups. Customers will act differently depending on age, gender, income, location, and even more factors. Firmographic information should greatly inform how you market to customers.

Company/Brand Voice

Companies can’t simply throw advertising up on social media, a brand’s voice, tone, and personality has to come with it. You have to add a human element to marketing. The more relatable and human a brand is towards customers, the more customers will trust your brand.

An easy way to humanize your brand is to put a human face behind it. Whether it be the CEO, the owner of the company, or a high-level leader, put a face to your brand. This practice has become a staple in the industry. Guest blogging, podcasting, and other public appearances are a good way to get the face of your company out there. This can also include social media. Let your highlighted leader post on Twitter or do a stream on Instagram where they connect with people or share their bits of wisdom.

Reply to Customers

Customers will frequently reach out to brands on social media, but not all brands take the time to reply back. Whether customers send questions, reviews, or ask for help with an issue, respond back. It shows the customers that you care about what they have to say. By sending a personalized message to your customers it makes them feel listened to and they are more likely to stay loyal to your brand because of that. Use social media to talk and to listen to your customers.

Instagram

Instagram is just one example of a social media site where marketing has taken off. There are just a few basic rules to follow for Instagram when it comes to business.

  1. Professional Photos - You don't want a look that  suggests you don’t know what you are doing. Professional pictures establish authority and knowledgeability.
  2. Stories - Stories are a great way to do quick content that is gone in 24 hours. This is also a good way to reach customers who may have missed your posts due to the infamous algorithm.
  3. Live Streaming - This is a good way to engage with customers in a live face to face moment. Show behind the scenes work with products while answering questions for a great stream. These streams live in your stories for 24 hours after they end and then they are gone.
  4. Advertise - Ads on Instagram are common place and there's a good reason for that; they work. There are three types of Instagram ads; photo, video, and carousel. They all work in similar ways, generating views, clicks, and website traffic.

Long-form Content

Word count does not promise a good article will show up on the first page of Google, but it can give you an edge. There is no penalty for not hitting a certain word count, but a good 1,500-word article will place higher than a good 500-word article. More and more publishers are asking for 1,000 words or more, but the words have to be well written. Quality, information-rich, comprehensive articles will place well, but having them be on the longer side gives it a little boost. You can link to these articles easily on social media. Post a teaser of the article with an image and a link to get people interested in clicking.

Social media is a huge part of marketing and advertising. Companies market to customers every single day on social media. With these tips and tricks, you too can be a social media marketing master.
