How to Write Blog Posts for Your Target Audience

The key to any successful blog is creating content that speaks to and will attract your intended audience. Knowing exactly who your target audience is and what they want to read will help you to create blog posts that attract and retain them. Here are the three key steps to creating a blog post that does just that:

1.  Find Out Who Your Target Audience Is

Probably the most important step of them all, you need to know who you want to target your blog posts at. Try to pick a specific sub-population of people, such as teenage girls, or businessmen. One of the biggest mistakes bloggers make is trying to cater blog posts to everybody in order to attract as many readers as possible; doing this will mean you’ll spread yourself too thin and end up with less readers than you started with. It would be like a toy shop selling cat food- it’s not what your readers want or came for. An easy way to decide your target audience is to look at who is currently reading your blog and find out as much information as you can using your blog analytics. Where do they live? What age range are they and how did they find your blog? This has the added benefit of meaning you can create posts to retain the viewers you already have.

2. Understand Your Target Audience

Once you have found your desired target audience, the next step is to understand them. What do they like or dislike? What kind of products would they be interested in? How do they read and use blogs? One of the best ways to understand your target audience is to find them online on social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram, and see what they are interested in. You can then cater your blogposts to subjects they are interested in. An excellent example of a blog that has catered to their target audience is, a blog that creates articles for and about women. Finding and understanding your niche will not only boost your readership, but will also make it easier for you to think of and create posts.

3. Engage Them

So, you’ve decided on your target audience and you understand how they think, the next step is to create articles that will attract and interest them. Make sure you create content that will appeal to them and get them involved such as including recommendations for products they might like, or asking questions they can answer in the comments. A useful exercise to practice this is to imagine your target audience as a single person, and write a blog post specifically for that person. This exercise helps to create more specific and personalized content that will hopefully speak to the reader in a more direct way.

With these three tips you should be well on your way to creating blog posts that will attract the right readers, and more importantly, get them to stay.
