The Importance of Evaluating Marketing Tactics

Brushing up on your marketing tactics is never a bad idea. Whether it is deciding on what new tactics to dive into, or how to make the ones you currently use better, sometimes the best idea is to just take a step back.

Look at your goals
When setting goals there are two things you need to consider--one is how attainable they are, and the second is how you are going to reach them.

If you already have goals in place, decide if you are reaching your goals, and how. Is there any way you could streamline the process so you can get an even better result? Also take a look at how you are measuring your goals. If you are setting the bar too low, you will be meeting your goals, but could be doing even more.
If you want to start a new tactic, decide on why and how it will help your company make more revenue. If you have good enough reason to start the new tactic, make sure you set sub goals to reach your main goal. Planning is key for any tactic, new or old.

Don’t forget about traditional tactics
With all the buzz social media is still getting, don’t forget about valuable techniques that work time and time again. Like picking up the telephone. Finding someone on LinkedIn and Twitter is great, but ask to talk about your topic on the phone. Getting others excited for your product or service is much easier to do with your voice.

Telemarketing services can also be a great way to bring in leads, if done correctly. Telemarketing has gotten a bad rap over the years, but it doesn’t have to be a dirty word. Using less invasive techniques can get you great results without making your potential customers angry.

Try a texting campaign instead, or promote a business app on your website. Both of these tactics can reach your customers phones without having to call them up.

Combining new and old tactics
I mentioned this a little bit above. Using social media with other tactics will work best for many companies. Make a connection on a social networking site, but move the relationship offline.

Another great tactic is to not forget to follow up on emails. This may sound like something we all do, but I’m sure you have run into this yourself. Following up can really pay off—set yourself reminders so you won’t forget. Little added touches like this can go a long way.

No matter what tactics you use, make sure you step back every once in a while and review. Decide what you are doing and what could be done better and set new goals. You will be amazed on what you can do with a little planning and goal setting.
