Management Tips to Enhance Productivity

We all know that we should be working smarter, not harder to achieve our personal and professional goals. We love the feeling of accomplishment and the feeling of well-being when you’ve made the right choices. As a manager or supervisor, it’s your responsibility to promote this type of productive work environment with your staff. Let’s explore a few creative management tips proven to enhance productivity.

1. Identify passion

It’s important to identify your passion, or passion in your employees, and nurture it. There will always be uninspiring tasks and chores we don’t enjoy doing, but if we are focused on something that excites us, we work harder, faster and smarter. Look for things you excel at or really enjoy, and make them a part of your every-day routine for a more fulfilling life.

2. Choose to be productive, not busy

With remote work promising to be more than a trend, many people are finding themselves running ragged, and getting nothing important accomplished. Make sure you prioritize and stay organized throughout the day to ensure you stay productive, over staying busy. One way people are choosing to focus on productivity is by using technology like Wireless earbuds to block out distracting noise while trying to focus on a task. Many people like to create a personal playlist with music that inspires them and gives them energy.

3. Do less

With many tasks, deadlines and personal responsibilities, it’s important to give 100% of your attention to just a few important tasks throughout the day, to ensure they don’t get pushed back or forgotten. Prioritize more important and time-sensitive tasks and focus on only one or two of them per day. This will give you more time to focus on completing these tasks correctly, and will ensure you don’t feel overwhelmed with a long and time consuming to-do list.

4.   Value free time

How you start and end your day plays a huge role in how productive you are. Start your day with peace and a healthy breakfast, and end it by shutting down all your electronics and focusing on recharging emotionally. Try to avoid checking social media or playing games on your phone until after you’ve completed your daily tasks, and use the down-time as a reward to help unwind. Having a good work-life balance is proven to make you more productive both at home and at the office, and will help decrease stress and make you a happier person.

5. Keep up to date

Many successful and productive people rely on calendars and reminders to help them stay productive throughout the day. Keep a calendar in a prominent place in your house, or keep your phone or PC calendar up to date with specific reminders for tasks that are due on particular days. Many people are asking “What is change management in project management?” and how can it help me stay on task?  Change management is a technique used to help people handle changes with grace and professionalism. When you have become adept at handling change well, you will find it easier to finish tasks quickly, without getting distracted or confused.  Having all the information you need pertaining to work, home, school and schedule means you will always be prepared and never caught unaware of an important task or deadline.

6. Stop Multitasking

Many studies say that multitasking is a myth, and humans don’t do their best work when they are trying to multitask. Our brains work far better when focusing attention on a single task at a time with no distractions. It takes practice to develop this type of focus, as most people have an attention span of 8.25 seconds, due to overload of entertainment, social media, technology and advertising. Set aside time to focus on each individual task you want to accomplish today, without the risk of multi-tasking slow-down.

We’ve all had days where we find ourselves making phone calls, checking social media, and not getting anything done. It’s critical that we focus on being more productive in both work and our every-day lives. Following these tips are great ways to train your brain to maximize both work and personal time, and be as productive as possible every day.
