How did you come up with the idea for your business?

I was doing some retail design and fixture building/painting when I fell in love with bikes. I quit my job to spend a couple weeks riding from Seattle to San Francisco, and decided when I came back that I was going to take the obsession one step farther and build bikes myself.

What makes your business unique? Why do you think it will be a success?

Custom frame-building has grown in popularity over the last 5 years. Anyone can buy an off the shelf bike that will ultimately serve the same purpose, but nothing is cooler than riding a bike that not only fits your body as well as it fits your idea of what a bike should be. I'm also one of a very few women in the field and that has already led to a good deal of my customers being women.

What are some of your top business-related accomplishments, or business lessons learned?

I'm definitely still figuring things out. I knew the skill would never be the problem, but there was a lot I had to learn about the day to day of running a business and filing taxes and maybe eventually paying myself a bit. I'm fortunate to know a lot of successful people that are always offering their wisdom.

Why should the Idea Cafe regulars vote for you?

Because bikes are the best!
