If you are looking to start a business in the United States, you have come to the right website. We spoke to Meritt USA who are experts in different types of Visas and business investment issues, with the USA. They offered information that is valuable for you and your company's future. There are various things to think through when you are settling in the United States. Some of the things are beneficial, and others more challenging.

Firstly remember:

The United States is a federal entity and whilst there are Federal rules and regulations (R&R’s) there are also State R&R’s which can vary between States and so you will need access to specific state guidance.

Secondly remember:

The same common rules for business apply to the US as for any other free market areas:

So, here is your ‘To Do’ list:

●  Do your Market Research

●  Do your Business Plan

●  Check your funding requirements

●  Check out your location and

●  Check your legal and registration requirements.

●  There are various information websites put out by the US government so:

Check Out the U.S. Government's Business Resources

The U.S. Government has valuable resources for those looking to start a business in the United States. One of these resources is the Small Business Administration.

The Small Business Administration has tools that help you plan your business and get through the legal challenges associated with setting it up. It can guide you on how to get financing, loans and guarantees and grants for research and development.  It also follows through with information on taxation, business tools and services.

If operating under a different name to your own, you will need to register your business i.e. a trade name and registration will be required with the Federal Govt. and possibly with your State Government as well.

If you require a commercial driving license this would be issued by your State Vehicle Agency.

You will require an Employer Identification Number (EIN) and some States also require you to have a Tax Identity Number, (TIN).

Consult the Government pages to ensure legal compliance with the various licenses and permits.

Once you have completed your ID’s and registrations and have your paperwork in order then you will be in a position to open a business bank account.

Benefits for Investing in the USA

There is an immigration benefit if you come with a certain amount of money to invest in the United States. According to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service, (USCIS), which is the government agency which processes all immigration documents, the EB-5 immigrant investor program allows you to settle in the United States. Currently, the amounts for investment are rather high, but if you can bring $1.8 million* to the United States for business purposes, you will qualify for the EB-5. It is important to note that EB-5 is to ensure that capital brought to the US is for investment and is deployed for business capital, investing in commercial enterprises which will create full time employment for at least 10 qualifying employees and is not a means to ‘buy into’ a green card required for employment.

Resolving Visa Issues

A good way to start with resolving your visa issues is to check out the exhaustive list of types of workers on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services,USCIS,website.

The next step, after you have determined your worker status, is to confirm that you have a Green Card. The Green Card will allow you to operate legally in the United States as a foreign worker. It is also the first step on the path to citizenship if you are inclined to live there permanently. Meritt USA can help you with any challenges you might have in selecting which Green Card category to apply for.
