Tips To Help You Stay Focused And Zoned-In When Working From Home

With updated lockdown restrictions meaning that a lot of us will be spending an increased amount of time working from home, it’s important to ensure that your makeshift desk-space feels a little less, well, makeshift. For those interested in building an ideal home-working situation that’s free from distractions and intrusions, here are a few tips that might help you to stay focused. Read on to find out more!

Get the right kit in place

Making do on your kitchen table with a laptop might have gotten you through the first few weeks of lockdown, but in the long-term, that hand cramp and back pain won’t be doing you much good, and it might even be affecting your productivity/work-rate. Invest in a decent computer setup that won’t crash every time you open one too many spreadsheets, and a desk that doesn’t wobble, or have to be cleared when you’re having your dinner.

Haven’t got the money to go splashing out on a new computer, desk and ergonomic chair that won’t be needed once you eventually go back to the office? If you haven’t already, why not take some of your equipment home from the workplace, if your employer will allow it? Many offices are encouraging this, and the stuff’s only going to sit there collecting dust anyway. Alternatively, you should feel comfortable requesting the required bits of kit needed to get the job done properly, rather than forking out for it from your own pocket.

Keeping things simple

It’s important to have a work environment that is competent and can get the job done, and one that you feel comfortable in. That being said, you want to make sure that your personal office isn’t too overbearing, and filled with clutter, or electronics that might divert your attention from the task at hand.

Tip – Living in a small apartment, and want to keep things as productive as possible? Perhaps it’s time to shuffle around some of the furniture. If you take a look at modern, student-centred apartment buildings in cities, such as the ones offered by RWinvest, many feature minimalist interiors with sleek surfaces and designs that can be easily adapted and worked-around. This sort of choice is perfect for the young professional that doesn’t want their home space to get in the way of their everyday, and those that, particularly now, spend a lot of time working on projects at home.

Rid yourself of distractions

Working from home presents a wide range of new challenges, and many people struggle to stay concentrated when they’re not in a professional work environment, or when they can check their phone/watch TV without having bosses watching over their shoulders constantly. Limiting smartphone usage is a big part of staying concentrated, as many of us check our phones more times than we’d care to admit on a regular basis, and so you might want to try apps such as OFFTIME, which limit your smartphone usage during set times and also only allow you to use apps that will aid productivity (such as your work emails or Microsoft apps etc.)
