Is Where Your Office is Located Important?

When looking where to place your office, a lot of factors will matter in the decision making process.

Do you want to be in a more industrial area, or in the midst of a residential one? Will you benefit from being in a residential area as opposed to an industrial one? You may want to consider a mixed use development.

Foot Traffic and Forming Community Bonds

If you are looking to place your office or business space in a more residential area, you may benefit from some foot traffic that you may not get in a more business oriented area.

For instance, many suburban "downtown" areas are housing both business and residential buildings, and this can benefit the business owners. Think "back in the day" when shop owners knew their customers. A nice bond can be formed when you get to know your customers because they live nearby.

Even if you're not a retail shop or restaurant, you can benefit from having your office in a close-knit community. Your kids may go to the same schools as your customers and clients; you can have a stronger tie to community involvement.

Mixed Use Developments

The popularity of mixed-use developments is on the rise.

Whereas they began more in urban areas, they are becoming more popular in suburban areas now as well. These are great for offices because residences can be just a walk away. It brings a city feel to a less industrialized area.

These can range from anything, from a two or three story building with shops on the bottom and lofts above, to a multi-level complex with high end restaurants and corporate branches.

As the following article looks at, a 61-Story, $700 million Residential Building Breaks Ground in Boston, and that's a great example of a large mixed-use development.

Convenience

If you live in the residential area where your office is, think of the convenience.

Maybe your employees live nearby as well, and everyone can appreciate the ease of a close commute and convenience of home and schools nearby. Time saved is a win-win for all Customers are more likely to drop in if you are close by, and this is always good for business.

A sense of community is important.

With a business in a residential area, you can gain this. For your employees, your customers and yourself, a residential office may be just the thing you're looking for.
