5 Traditional Marketing Techniques That Are Still Being Used Today

The advertising industry has really come a long way in the past couple of decades. Traditional marketing methods such as print advertisements, TV commercial, and radio spots have been replaced with an algorithm that uses customer information including their age, gender, location, browser and browsing patterns, previous purchases and much more in order to provide the customers with products and services they need, just when they need them. Although traditional techniques might seem out of place in today’s predominantly digital world, some of them are highly popular even today.

1. Coupons and discounts

One of the best examples of combining traditional marketing techniques with digital advertising has to be coupons and discounts. They were predominantly printed in magazines and newspapers, but today, companies generally use them in a digital format. Coupons and discounts are as powerful as they are simple and marketers have been using them for decades to attract customers and entice them into trying some of the products and services your company has to offer. Just make sure that all your coupons have clear text that is easy to read and understand and, more importantly, a clear call to action.

2. Jingles and slogans

There isn’t a person in the world that hasn’t experienced a jingle getting stuck in their heads for days. The same can be said about slogans and even the most outrageous ones seem to find a place inside our brain. By combining catchy, memorable phrases with a simple melody, advertisers are able to create ads that cannot be blocked or simply clicked away. No matter how practical and easy-to-use digital advertising can be, jingles and slogans have been around for centuries and they are still considered to be a valid advertising tool to this day.

3. Donations and sponsorships

Donations and sponsorships have been a staple of local advertising efforts for decades and the best place to start are the local schools and sports teams. You can always donate money, but a better idea might be to invest in affordable t-shirt printing and have the local sports team advertise your company on their sports shirts. This will allow you to promote your products and services and raise brand awareness by helping out local schools and sports teams.

4. Hosting or speaking at local events

Local events provide business owners with an ideal opportunity to connect with the local community. Whether you’re hosting an event or simply giving out a presentation, make sure you know exactly who your audience will be and prepare appropriately. Explain what makes you qualified to present on that specific subject and try to be interesting and engage your audience. You can record your presentation and use the recording to either improve your speaking skills or further advertise your company by uploading it to your website or social media page.

5.  Direct mail

Everyone thought that direct mail will be completely replaced by e-mail marketing or some other type of digital advertising. However, direct mail has persevered and cemented its position as the go-to technique for getting your brand message directly into the hands of consumers. You can further personalize this already tangible experience by using a person’s full name or any other additional information that can be used to make them feel as if the message is made just for them.

Traditional techniques might have been pushed to the side in favor of digital advertising, but they are still being used today and will likely keep being used in the foreseeable future. Whether you’re using coupons and discounts to entice potential customers, donating money and clothes to schools and sports teams or simply sending a personalized email, traditional advertising techniques should always be a part of a larger advertising campaign that incorporates both the old and the new in order to produce the optimal results.
