Healthy Employees Are a Better Bet

If you never spend time as a business owner worrying about the health and happiness of your employees, can you expect them in return to give 100 percent attention and effort to your company?

While many employers take the time to make sure their employees are healthy and happy in the workplace, some do not. If you find yourself in the latter category, why is that? Face it; employees who come to work with the right state of physical and mental happiness will best serve you, ultimately best helping to keep your customers happy.

With that in mind, what are some ways you can make sure your employees are getting what they need as far as physical and mental happiness from their jobs?

It Takes More than Just Salaries

While the majority of employees are apt to say that having a good salary so that they can support themselves and/or their families is most important, never overlook things like healthcare benefits, the option to telecommute at times, on-site daycare and more.

When it comes to healthcare benefits, many businesses nationwide have seen a change in how and what they can offer employees due to Obamacare.

In the event you are a small business, the implementation of Obamacare in the last couple of years has changed how the game is played. Fortunately, many businesses and individuals for that matter have been privy to a health coverage tax credit when receiving coverage through Obamacare.

When offering health care coverage to your employees, be sure you:

  • Review plans and prices to see which one offers the best coverage at the most affordable rate to your business;
  • Get your employees involved in their own healthcare needs. While you ultimately have to pick the best health insurance plan for your business, getting employee feedback on their lifestyles and health histories helps. A more invested employee is more likely to serve you best;
  • Work with health insurance providers to see if they can offer you special rates for signing up the entire office. No two employees will have the same healthcare needs, but having a plan that offers coverages for the majority of your workers could net you a deal;
  • Remind your employees that prevention is the best medicine against illness. More and more employers are offering access to fitness facilities (either on or off-site). The benefits for both business owner and employee are not hard to miss, especially in a day and age when the connection between healthcare coverage and being healthy and fit is so obvious.

Even though most employees will tell you the bottom line to their health and happiness in the workplace is a good salary, never overlook the importance of health insurance and keeping your workers healthy and fit.
