Making a Shop Display that Stands Out

Choosing an appropriate shopfitting design is essential for making your shop a success. A great shop display should subtly convey a message to your customers about the kind of products you offer. It is important to take into account your target market when planning your shopfitting. Twenty-something’s will respond better to hip, modern displays than pensioners will, for example. And if you are active in a competitive market, you are going to have to find a way to stand out. For this you need to innovate and be creative. To get you started, we’ve chosen some of our favourite ways that you can go about this.

1. Repurposed display cases

Repurpose, reclaim, upcycle! This is mantra of contemporary shop and event design. Take something that is old, unused or no longer needed and use it. For example, a pile of used tires can be used to create a unique looking pedestal for an expensive produce. Or how about used doors to create shelves or even your shop counter?

The secret of creating eye-catching repurposed displays is to take something that is commonly used for a different purpose. People will be surprised and delighted by the creativity you are expressing through your display and attribute these positive characteristics to your product catalogue too.

What is more, repurposing using discarded materials is an environmentally friendly solution to your shopfitting problems. This means you can make fantastic shop displays while helping to save the planet!

2.  A homely touch

Make it feel like home. People are most relaxed in their own homes. You can make your customers feel more relaxed by making your shop a little more like home.

Try adding a comfy chair somewhere, giving the place a lounge like feel. Or try hanging some string lights across you display to give a soft, warm lighting. Lay out a rug or two and hang some blankets on the walls to make the place really cosy.

3. Hooks

Now let’s talk practicalities. When displaying your products you are inevitably going to use some hooks. Whether it’s to hang packets, boxes or the product itself, practical hooks and hangers are essential. You don’t want to have to rebuild your entire display just because your product range changes slightly. It’s much easier to have hooks and hangers that can be easily and quickly adjusted and moved to new locations.

You could go with the traditional retail option of installing a slatwall. These are cheap and make altering displays very easy. Simply fit in some slatwall hooks and start hanging products from them. When you need to change the display the hooks come out with a single hand movement and can be moved or replaced by a different type of hook.

Alternatively, you could again use repurposed stuff, an old hat stand to hang products from or a discarded lampshade with some additional hooks welded on. There are endless possibilities, it just depends what materials you have to hand. The more unlikely the combination of materials the more likely your display will grab the attention of your customers.
