Do Your Employees Need a Bachelor's Degree?

When individuals are interested in gaining positions in a particular field in the small business world, they typically earn a four-year degree referred to as a bachelor's degree.

Even though there are good paying small business career opportunities where an associate's degree is appropriate, a bachelor's will allow careerists more intangible and tangible advantages and opportunities directly related to their degree program in comparison to a two-year degree.

Credibility in Professional Circles

It has become more necessary for people to carry a bachelor's degree over the years mainly because more individuals are carrying them in comparison to the number of jobs available in the small business world.

Therefore, when previously holding a bachelor's degree used to hold some merit in terms of competitiveness, it has become a necessary requirement in many spectrums of the career world.

Furthermore, you may be able to enter a small business field with an associate's degree, but you will not earn as much professional credibility with your clients or peers within the industry as you would if you held a bachelor's degree.

Enhanced Career Performance

When earning a higher education, students typically place focus upon what they will personally gain from the experience.

The reality of the situation, though, is the additional education will provide individuals with more abilities and skills necessary to perform better in the workplace.

Studies have shown that those with a bachelor's degree perform better in comparison to those with an associate's degree in terms of quality, as well performance.

Career Stability

According to a study performed during August of 2012 by the Brookings Institute, those holding a bachelor's degree have more job security. Of the 4 benefits of getting your bachelor's degree this would seem to be the most important considering the tough economic climate, particularly in the small business world.

When economies are tough, companies are highly selective; therefore holding a bachelor's degree becomes even more important in terms of securing and holding on to employment opportunities.

Higher Earning Potential

When individuals hold a bachelor's degree, there are higher chances of them earning a higher income throughout their lifetime.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics during 2012, the average weekly median income for those holding a bachelor's degree was $1,066.00. In comparison to those holding an associate's degree, this is thirty-six percent higher. In comparison to those holding a high school diploma, this weekly wage is sixty-four percent higher.

In addition to paying a higher wage to those holding a bachelor's degree, there are some employers who are also willing to offer partial or complete tuition reimbursement opportunities to their employees because they believe in the power of an educated workforce.

Final Thoughts

While many career opportunities do exist for those holding an associate's degree and this is a good start down the educational path, the true value rests in receiving a bachelor's degree.

Those holding a bachelor's degree stand a better chance at securing jobs, receiving better credibility, holding jobs longer, and receiving higher wages.
