Throttle bodies one-on-one

Horsepower Inc. is the leading manufacturer of the original big bore throttle body.  Our beginning dates back to the summer of 2002 when members of our crew were utilizing our machine shop facility after hours to improve the performance of their fuel injected bikes.  We knew then there was a need for performance products in the Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) market. 

In 1995, Harley-Davidson introduced Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) as an option for the Electra Glide motorcycle.  By 2007 EFI became standard on every Harley-Davidson motorcycle, including Sportsters.  Harley-Davidson’s standard stock size throttle body is a 46mm.  A larger throttle body means more air flow which means more horsepower.  With the market having more upgrade options for cam shafts, cylinder heads, and air cleaners than in the past, they have introduced new crate engine combinations from 110ci to 120ci+.  This opens the door to a larger market of riders that have done upgrades to their motorcycle and our throttle bodies get the full potential out of the upgrades they have already made. 

Our units provide a crisp throttle response and are flow bench tested for unparalleled dyno-proven performance to increase airflow and to allow for substantial increases in horsepower and torque.  We offer a throttle body upgrade for every bike.  Each HPI big bore throttle body is fully machined and ported internally for unmatched flow compared to other throttle body manufacturers.  All of our throttle bodies feature a split shaft and stainless steel spring to resist corrosion.  Each HPI throttle body is equipped with a sealed double roller bearing for a smooth throttle operation and response.  Increased strength of brass throttle blade and shaft resist deflection, helping to maintain throttle position accuracy, which absorbs vibration and engine harmonics.  All this leads to a product that is easier to tune, and produces a better running bike.

In 2007, we introduced our line of reworked stock throttle bodies.  This is an option for motorcycles that have stage 1 style upgrades and are looking for better performance at a cheaper cost.  Customers send in their existing units and we enlarge the bore size for more air flow and complete it with a full hand port and polish for a cleaner look.  It’s a makeover for your throttle body at an affordable cost.

Our newest unit is the solution to the fly-by-wire units.  We are the only company to offer an aftermarket upgrade for this style throttle body.  The Harley-Davidson version is a 50mm and we are able to offer a 55mm with our Max Flow design 58mm manifold.  This unit is a good size for most of the new engine combinations because in recent years, stock engines and aftermarkets have enlarged in cubic inch size.  Within the first year of offering this option, we have seen a very positive response and large gains in performance.
