Top Ten Qualities That Make an Excellent Leader

In any business setting, a great leader is required if a company is going to have success. Whether a person is leading the entire company or just a team of individuals who are working on a distinct project, they must be able to lead them effectively. Some people can do this naturally, but most need to go through a stage of leadership development where they learn how to become the leader that they need to be. The following are ten qualities that you should attempt to develop if you want to lead others.

- A Sense of Confidence
As a leader, you must always show that you have confidence that everything will work out. This will inspire those below you. If you do not believe that things are going to go as planned, others will be nervous and may already feel defeated.

- Decisiveness When Making Decisions
You need to be able to make large decisions quickly and without hesitation. You need to approach difficult decisions without holding back.

- Dedication To The Tasks At Hand
In this way, you can lead by example. Do not just tell others to do the work on their own. You need to be dedicated to doing the work as well, or no one will follow you.

- Compassion For Those Being Led
Do not let your position make you think that you are better than everyone else. You need to have compassion for others if you are going to get them to work with you effectively.

- The Ability to Listen
You must be open to suggestions that other people provide. This does not mean that you will always do what they say. However, you need to listen to their opinions.

- The Ability to Adapt
Along similar lines, you also need to be able to change tactics when a good idea is presented. Do not stubbornly stick to a bad idea.

- A Vision for The Future
All leaders need to be able to see where the team is going. This will allow you to get there.

- Commitment to Learning
You can always learn more about the job that you are doing or the people around you. If you are always learning, others will as well.

- A Willingness to Delegate
A good leader knows when to pass tasks on to others. This will keep you from burning out.

- The Ability to Praise Others
When others do something well, you should praise them. This will make them happy so that they will work hard to please you again.

This combination of qualities must be possessed by any great leader. If you look at others who have successfully led companies or even countries in the past, you will find that they have many of these attributes. Perhaps you already have a number of them yourself. You should know that this does not mean that a stage of leadership development is not necessary. You need to identify the qualities that you lack so that you can focus on developing them.
