August was all about renovations, preparations, and the countdown to opening day. Anyone who has successfully opened a small business knows how much goes into planning for your first day of operation, whether you’re running an online store or a brick & mortar establishment.

The first thing we needed to do as soon as we received our zoning approval was to apply for a building permit so that we could complete the construction on our cat lounge expansion. However, the process wasn’t simple as just walking into the Buildings department the day after our special exception was approved. In order for the approval to be official, it needed to be filed with the Town Clerk and the notice had to be published in the newspaper. Only once that had occurred, could the permit be granted and the renovations begin, creating a space with twice the room for our incoming cats to explore!
